Default Average cost of housing

I am just curious what the average cost of housing is in the DC area. I have heard that it is much cheaper to live in Virginia and just commute. What are you thoughts about this?

Interesting question. From what I have heard myself Washington DC is very expensive. I have an Uncle that was working there and he actually had to purchase a house in Virginia and that was expensive as well.

I haven't priced homes in the area, but if I had to guess, I'd say it would be somewhat cheaper to purchase in VA and commute. Although it would still be pricey, I think you might be able to get more space for the same budget.

Like many big cities, it's about convenience and what's important to you. Do you mind the commute or is it more important to be "in the middle of it all"? for me, I'd commute anyday!

Oh I know what you mean. I actually commute now for my job. The houses where I work is around $600,000-800,000. That is ridiculous. I can't believe that people can afford that. I live in an area where the cost of homes are about $300,000. Since there is that difference I would rather commute.

makes you wonder how people afford those houses. What is it that they do that allows them that type of lifestyle?
