50-Year-Old House Warrants Special Scrutiny

Q: DEAR BARRY: I'm considering buying a house that was built in 1951, and I have some questions. Are plumbing systems from that era consistent with today's standards? (I think the pipes are steel.) Are electrical systems of that age safe? Can they provide enough power for today's electrical needs?
