Lake County Florida

L ake County, Florida is home to one of the nation's largest vacation destinations, Orlando. And while this metropolitan area gets most of the attention in the area, Lake County has a plethora of great towns within its borders. The County is full of lush rolling hills, scenic beauty and fresh clean air. The area offers the best of both worlds, with exciting attractions packed into its metropolitan core, and charming villages outside of the city center.

Lake County encompasses over 950 square miles, supporting a population of approximately 220,000 residents. The average age of a Lake County resident is 45 years old. The largest economic sector in the area is the retail trade, employing nearly fourteen percent of the local population. Manufacturing follows at a distant second, employing just over six percent of folks here.

One of the crown jewels in Lake County's crown is the Deer Island Golf and Lake Club. Its eighteen-hole course is situated among lakes and nature preserves on a four hundred-acre island. Equally stunning, the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort offers a setting of towering old-growth trees and 36 championship holes. This location enjoys being one of the south's oldest golf courses, and has been repeatedly named to the Top Twenty list out of Florida’s over 1,100 courses.

Lake County also offers the Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards within its borders. This is one of the few Florida wineries, and the owners here are working hard to put Florida on the world's wine maps. This is a great spot to spend a day sipping and sampling the various wines offered, while relaxing and enjoying the magnificent scenery of the grounds. Wine enthusiasts also won't want to miss the Wine and Cheese Train, which runs at various times throughout the year. The site of this unique attraction is the Orange Blossom Dinner Train. On the fourth Sunday of each month from March through November, the excursion works with the Wine Depository to create special wine and food pairings. Guests are treated to an epicurean adventure, while hearkening back to bygone days aboard the train.
