According to the Software & Information Industry Association, the Longmont area has the highest concentration of software-related jobs in the nation. Some of the biggest computer companies in the United States such as Seagate and Maxtor are located in the city. The technological industry balances perfectly with new age construction and manufacturing firms. The jobs market here is good with an unemployment rate of only 3.5%. Salaries here are good as well. The mean household income is $51,174 annually. Large technological firms and computer companies have various operations in the city of Longmont. Maxtor Colorado and Seagate Technologies are just two examples of technology companies in the region, but there are many. These two companies along with Con Agra Foods are some of the largest employers in the area.
Longmont makes economical sense for most families. Housing prices are still reasonable. The median house price is only $210,900, although demand continues to rise as more people are discovering the area. New construction is taking place throughout Longmont as its popularity continues to grow. For tourists and residents alike, Longmont offers a wide variety of restaurants. There are plenty of "fine-dining" establishments, as well as family restaurants. This robust community has more than 60 restaurants in all catering to a variety of palates; Italian, Mexican, Tex-Mex, American, and Continental foods. Some of the most elegant restaurants in Colorado can be found only a short 15 minute drive away, in Boulder.
Ever since the city was incorporated in 1873 Longmont has continued to be the entertainment capital of Colorado. Longmont has been rich in culture and always had a variety of art galleries and museums to enjoy. In Boulder County there are numerous movie theaters and activity centers. Plus Longmont overlooks the valley of the Vrain River, which has some of the best fishing around. Since Longmont is less than a 15 minutes drive to Boulder, it enjoys all the entertainment that Boulder has to offer. Some of the best skiing in the nation can be found in the area. Boulder County is situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Local ski resorts enjoy some of the best snow in the nation. Another aspect to this diverse local economy is tourism. Each year the number of skiers and snowboarders coming into the area is growing. As the area has gained popularity with the snow crowd it has created a lot of new jobs. The residents of Longmont understand that a good education is critical for its younger residents. The St. Vrain Valley School District oversees 37 excellent schools which have excelled at putting out a first rate education. In addition, there is an excellent post secondary opportunity right down the road at the University of Colorado located in Boulder. The city has slowly become one of the best places in the state and in the country for raising a family. With a low crime rate, good schools, affordable cost of living, families can feel good about moving to Longmont. Longmont also has a surprisingly moderate climate. If it snows, it rarely hangs around for long because a warm day happens frequently enough to keep things from accumulating. Many days throughout the winter will reach 60 degrees.
There's also lots of family fun to be had. You can fish, canoe, or kayak along the Vrain river, or go
hiking, cycling, or even mountain biking through the hills and trails that engulf the area.
